Lessons-Part 1:   Copy the important data, and solve the following...       

 Bobo's Buffett Restaurant has a fruit display. On it they have:
 14 apples, 10 oranges, 8 bananas, 12 peaches, and 8 plums.


      1) What is the percentage of total fruit offered of each kind of fruit displayed?

       2)   a.  What could Bobo do to have the same proportion of apples to total fruit diplayed, as he has oranges?

              b. With your change in part "a" ...how could he insure that peaches have the same proportion to oranges as existed BEFORE your change in "a" ?

Classwork:  Extensive Discussion of "Lesson -Part 1" for today... concentrating on ratios and proportion.
 
Turned-in:   nothing.
 
Homework:  Read through new CMP text book "Data Distributions", pages 2-6;  then, write down answers to the bullet point questions at the bottom of page 6, and be ready to discuss them in class on Monday and to hand them in.

  • REMINDER:  At most, homework is designed such that students should spend 30-40 minutes maximum of focused effort on their homework assignments on any night. (*Please note that not all assignments are designed to take 30-40 minutes, that is only the maximum time... most homework assignments should be able to be accomplished in less time.) If an assignment is taking longer than that, students should stop working, and come in with the work, as completed, for class the next day to discuss with the teacher the issues the student may be having that is making it difficult for him/her to complete the assignment

  • Students who received a score of 70% or below on Learning Target quizzes need to re-take them to improve their score and to receive a passing grade showing that they understand the learning target. The cut-offs for re-takes are:
    • LT #3.1 - rational & Irrational numbers - students who received a score of 5 or less (out of possible 7 pts.).
    • LT #3.2 - equivalent representation of rational numbers - students who received a score of 8 or less (out of possible 11 pts.).
    • LT #3.4/3.5 - Proportions & Proportional reasoning - students who received a score of 9 or less (out of possible 13 pts.).

In order to do a re-take, students need to KEEP their old quiz, and BRING it in, with the correct answers (with explanations) on a SEPARATE FORM on the items they missed. [RETAKE FORMS AVAILABLE IN MR. USEM'S ROOM] This will qualify them "ready to re-take" the quiz. Re-takes are to be done outside of regular class time, and can be done before-school, after-school, during recess, or during B.E.S.T. class. Students should make arrangements with Mr. Usem to do the re-takes. Students will have 2 weeks from when the quizzes are handed back to complete the re-take.

  • (Deadline for LT #3.1, #3.2, and #3.4/3.5 is: Monday, Dec 14)

- students can come and work with Mr. Usem a variety of times each day, if they need extra help. Available times are posted in the classroom, as well as on Mr. Usem's webpage
