October 2, 2015
Welcome Fall to all.
Another week of warm weather- it is great when the students can get outside!

To continue with this year's theme of "non-compliant computers," we ask that you check your parent or student portal.  Not all stations can actually move the grades into a progress report.  We hope this can be repaired soon.

The weekend is supposed to be beautiful!  Spend some time in the sunshine!
Fifth grade 101:
Please help your child get it done.

Check midquarter grades, their progress grades will be entered by Friday.

  Have a great weekend!
Smarter than a 5th Grader?
You will be by June!
 The Fifth Grade Team
Hello. My name is Dr. Jacqueline Stocker, and I am the teacher filling in while Mrs. Kolbinger is on maternity leave until a few days before Winter Break. I am 5-12 certified in Minnesota, and have a Ph.D. in English. I have enjoyed teaching at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Our ELA classes have produced colorful "Tall Tale Business Posters," which were due Monday the 28th of September. We have started our next writing project, which is writing our own tall tales. The "Tall Tale Story" will be due October 19th. Students have the rubrics, and parents can help by discussing their child's ideas with them in order to develop the complexity and detail of the tale.

I will be holding conferences with parents, and I look forward to meeting you.

All best,
Jackie Stocker

 Cheers! Mrs. Kolbinger

Science promotes academic excellence!

Leaf Litter abounds!  What happens when we have 'golf course' lawns?  Our friends the decomposers leave for better leaves.  I will be looking for better areas that will provide us with the critters we hope to find.

Does your child look at their science notes each night?  It is the best way for them to remember the content vocabulary they need for success.  We will retest the vocabulary for students that need to improve their grade.  Please make sure your child uses the class notes and information in their science notebook.

The Homework this week is a response sheet that differentiates living and non-living factors that are needed for SURVIVAL.   Please encourage your child to use something other than 'air' for their non-living factor- we have had many discussions about air.  Look at all the other factors we need every day.

Due Monday, October 5

Ms Hill

This week we took a quiz on Friday. Students will get them back on Monday. Students that score a 6/10 or lower will be moved to Mr. Hamilton's BEST class for the week to review the concepts and then re take the test in his class. Students that score a 7 or 8 out of 10 and would like to re take the test they will need to complete an action plan and see me on Thursday during Advisory to re take their quiz.

We will be starting the next unit on decimals which will go hand in hand with the fraction unit. Students will get a new book so again they should leave their old work books at home to keep their binders organized.

Please continue using my website to get homework assignments, math resources, and math games to practice at home!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Tests on geography will returned on Friday. Overall, the students did very well.
Thank you to parents who helped with their child's homework, or checked on their child's work.

Please encourage your son or daughter to keep up the good job of staying focused during class.  It has been a crazy week (when the moon is full), and students have been very chatty.

Spelling words:  October, Doyle, direction, intermediate, Field School
TEST Thursday, October 7.

Thank you for all that you do,
-Ms. Doyle

Do you have conference scheduled?  Email your child's first hour teacher if you do not yet have a conference date.
