September 25, 2015
Welcome Fall to all.
Another week of warm weather- it is great when the students can get outside!

To continue with this year's theme of "non-compliant computers," we ask that you check your parent or student portal.  Not all stations can actually move the grades into a progress report.  We hope this can be repaired soon.

The weekend is supposed to be beautiful!  Spend some time in the sunshine!
Fifth grade 101:
Please help your child get it done.

Check midquarter grades, their progress grades will be entered by Friday.

  Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Kolbinger had her baby- Gianna Rae! She was born on 9/18 weighing 8.375 pounds, and 21 inches long.

 Cheers! Mrs. Kolbinger

Science promotes academic excellence!

Our mealworms have spoken!  They overwhelmingly liked a dry, dark environment.  We graphed and charted our data, and it was easy to see the preferred result.

We had a short quiz on environments Thursday.  We looked at the results and students retook some of the questions.  Not all retake grades will make it into the grade book today.  Afternoon classes should be posted by the end of Monday.

What would be your dream environment?  Using one 8-1/5 X 11 copy paper, draw your dream environment.  You must include the necessities, but you can also dream big!

Use color- color pencils or crayons, no markers.  This cannot be done by computer.  Have fun!

Due Monday, September 28!

This week we continued working on fractions using the Rational Numbers textbook. We dove into some tricky concepts- number lines! Students learned how to use number lines involving fractions to solve and estimate their answers. Students were provided fraction circles this week in class to help visualize their answers.

Originally I was planning on having a quiz this Friday, however after teaching this week I noticed some of the concepts will need additional practice/notes before testing. Therefore, the quiz is moved to next Friday, October 2nd.

It has been a great 5 weeks, students have the routines down and are transitioning wonderfully to middle school!

I love that students are using my website to get homework assignments, manipulatives for homework help, and playing games with the listed math websites. That is awesome!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Social Studies
September 25, 2015
This last Thursday we took our first Social Studies test on geography.  Students learned what the room should look, feel, and sound like during  a test.  This was a 2 day test, so there will not be a retake on the test.  Student's have the notes or answers for the test.

Thank you to parents who helped with their child's homework, or checked on their child's work.

Next weeks homework will be a page about September.  I will introduce it on Friday in class.  It will be due on Friday, October 2.

Thank you for all that you do,
-Ms. Doyle
