6th GRADE NEWSLETTER
Monday, August 29, 2016

Welcome!

On most Monday mornings, the 6th grade team will send you this e-newsletter. School-wide or team-wide announcements will appear here, and each teacher will add their own weekly plan below.

We are excited to be working with your children, and we want each student to feel comfortable, safe, and engaged in their learning.  We will do our best to develop positive relationships that make each student feel that they belong.

Sometimes students need reminders about behaving appropriately.  This is a normal part of growing up.  How will we "re-direct" behaviors that interfere with student learning, so that students can continue to interact productively and positively with their classmates?

The Fabulous Five Steps to help students regain focus and continue their learning
We will try to use these steps kindly and consistently across the team:

Teacher Signal/Reminder: This may be a look or simple gesture toward the task at hand.

Teacher Proximity: The teacher movers closer to the student to quietly regain their attention and focus.

Teacher/Student Conversation: This is a private conversation either at the student's seat or other nearby location.

Restorative Reset:  This may be as simple as a quiet break to regroup alone, or a more formal discussion about how to make things right.

Real-time Parent phone call:  This is a last resort within the classroom, only after several other attempts have been made to help the student regain appropriate behaviors.  You are busy and so are we, so we never use this option lightly.

We would truly appreciate you going over these reminders, and the reasons behind them, with your child.  We will do the same in our classes.

We expect to have a great year with you and your students, full of learning, growing, and building positive relationships!   Thanks for trusting us with your precious children!
