THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE FOR THE PLAYDOUGH!  We will be using it this coming week!

Long Lake Conservation Center:  Thank you to those of you who have already returned the Long Lake slips.  We are looking for more chaperones!  Any parent/guardian is welcome to chaperone either part of the week with their child; moms are welcome with sons and dads are welcome with daughters.  Please contact Lonna Wilson for any Long Lake questions.

From Wendy Wolff, our counselor:

The 6-8th grade "Winter Candy Land" Dance is coming up on Friday December 9! Tickets are still on sale through Thursday. Tickets are $4 but  if students bring in a non perishable can, box or bag of food, they will get $1 off their ticket. We will be donating the food to an organization called "Hope for the City" who distributes the food to people in need.  If you would like more information about Hope for the City and how they distribute the food we donate, please visit their website:

We are in need of a few strings of lights to decorate for the dance. If you find you have some extras as you decorate for the holidays, you can drop one off in Wendy Wolff's office.  If you like to build things, we are looking to build a simple "arch way" for students to go through as they enter the dance. Let me know if you have an interest! (668-3654)

Language Arts

This week we begin our novel study of Bridge To Terabithia. We will start with pre-reading activitie and writing.

On Thursday, our 6th Graders have the opportunity to attend a dance workshop hosted by the Social Dance Studio. The Social Dance Studio, located on 23rd Ave and 38th St, provides lessons on formal dance, like swing dance. They have volunteered their time to prepare our students for their first school dance- with tips on dance etiquette and dance forms. They will be here, in the gym, 2-4th periods.

The final unit test is Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.  Students should look over class notes, old learning target quizzes, and make sure their bookmark is full of information.

Our next unit of study will focus on decimals and percents.  We will start this new unit on Thursday.

microscopeLast week students took a quiz to show what they know about matter and its properties.  A few need to finish up today.  Those who are experiencing trouble may work with me to show what they know in a different way.

I was impressed with the serious effort that students put in to show their knowledge.

Homework this week is a "Quiz Fix-up" opportunity -- not only is this a homework assignment, but it is a chance for students to improve their quiz scores and their understanding of the concepts.

This week we begin to explore energy in all its different forms.  Ms. Butzlaff, our student teacher, will be presenting and teaching this unit of study, taking us right up to Winter Break.

Science assignments for this quarter can usually be found at:  Husby's web pages (usually only after they are assigned).

Social Studies

CLASSWORK:   We will be taking our Ch. 3 quiz on Monday.  On Tuesday, we will be reading about the history of Minnehaha meeting Hiawatha and doing some playdough activity to go along with the reading.  Wednesday and Thursday we will be learning about the history of the official photograph called Grace.  And Friday, we will be starting Ch. 4 by completing our Cornell Notes and Vocab.

HOMEWORK:  Study for the MN quiz that we periodically take.  Students should have their notes from the beginning of the year and they should have the old quizzes that they can work from.
