As students become antsy for school to be over, we find it helpful to keep them active and busy, in class and out.  Your continued high expectations for both work completion and behavior will help to keep them focused, and they will actually be happier.  Thank you!

End of the year field trip planned:
We are scheduled to go to Grand Slam (an indoor recreation center) on the final day of school, to celebrate a successful year of learning and growing.  All 6th graders are invited to attend, within the following expectations:

Academic expectations:
No "F"s in any core classes.  (In special cases a student may appeal to a teacher by showing evidence of their active effort to learn and to improve;  ex. coming in for extra help.)
Behavior expectations:
We must be able to trust students to make responsible behavior choices on field trips; otherwise we cannot risk taking students out of the building.  Student behavior during school is our only way of assessing that trust.

To ensure a safe and pleasant experience for all, students who exhibit any of the following behaviors between now and the end of the year will be required to have a parent or guardian accompany them during the entire trip (including bus rides and during each activity):
        - 5 or more "Reflection recess" sessions* assigned
        - 3 or more removals from class due to behavior
        - suspension, either in-school or out-of-school

*  "Reflection recess" is our way of helping students who exhibit certain classroom behaviors to learn from their mistakes and to make things better.  A student is asked to come in during recess to talk with a teacher, write what the problem was and how they will make it better, and then call a parent to report on it.

Virtue of the Week
The beginning of each week Mrs. Miller starts our day with a reading of a weekly virtue.  Then in advisory we circle up and everyone has an opportunity to discuss the meaning of the virtue and possibly set goals for the week.

I am working on adding more age appropriate, high interest novels to my classroom library.  If you have any books you would like to donate please let me know!  

Thank you to all the families who have donated books!  The students are very excited to see the library grow!

Please look for daily information to be written in your child's planner. Extra copies are always available in my classroom (purple bins in the Student Center) as well as on the student/parent portal.

Friday: Literature Review

Students will be working on text evidence, analyzing events and ideas, text structure, tone, theme, and mood.

As a reminder, whatever you do not finish in class , you can take home to finish and turn in.

Students who were missing assignments were given a progress report on 5/26 and should be turning in any missing work as soon as possible.

Final Project guidelines went home last week. Projects are due June 5th with presentations on June 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th.

Planners:  Parents I am having students write in their planners DAILY what the specific homework assignment is for the day. Including Fridays.   
If your child does not have or remember their homework, please check the parent portal.  I will list the assignment.  If the assignment is a worksheet I will have a pdf of the worksheet attached to the title of the assignment. Click on the paperclip icon and the pdf will appear.

I think taking some time to practice scale factor paid off.  Over 85% of the 6th graders had a B or an A on quiz #2: Scale Factors!  Way to go students.  Very few students are still confused on scale factor and may need to re-take the quiz.  Please check the portal to see if your child needs to re-take the quiz.  Re-takes happen during advisory on Thursday's and Friday's.  I am also available during recess if students need help.
