6th GRADE NEWSLETTER
Monday, Nov. 20, 2017

Greetings!

Short week!  We only have classes on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
We hope your families enjoy this Thanksgiving break!

PAPER EGG CARTONS NEEDED:  Still need paper egg cartons for Ms. Wucherpfennig's room!

UPCOMING FIELD TRIP!!  Many slips are still missing!  Please get slips in soon!  Thanks!  6th graders will be going to the MN History Center/Capitol on Tuesday, Dec. 5!  Trip will include free exploration of the History Center/Fur Trade Class at History Center and a tour at newly renovated State Capitol.  Look for details in the field trip slip coming home on Thursday!  Return slips to Ms. Wucherpfennig!  If you are ordering a sandwich, slips need to be in by Nov. 28 so I can place the order with the restaurant at History Center.  This is their deadline and they have advised me that no late orders will be accepted.

Here's to a good school week!

    Language Arts

Excited for another great week with 6th grade!

Reminder: Please check in with your student on their Outside Read Book and encourage them to begin a new book if they have finished! Outside Read check ins will occur at the end of Quarter 2.

As plans change very frequently in ELA, it's best to check my "What Did I Miss?" Google Folder to check in with what we did that day in ELA and what homework or assignments need to be completed. This folder is updated once a week or so.

Homework or assignments from Quarter 1 will not be accepted after Wednesday November 1st due to the grading deadline.

Planners:  Parents I am having students write in their planners DAILY what the specific homework assignment is for the day. Including Fridays.
If your child does not have or remember their homework, please check the parent portal.  I will list the assignment.  If the assignment is a worksheet I will have a pdf of the worksheet attached to the title of the assignment. Click on the paperclip icon and the pdf will appear.

Circles were great!  Students worked hard measuring across and around several round objects and noticed patterns in their collected data.  The formula was developed quickly to calculate the circumference of a circle.  Then we cut out radius squares to cover different sized circles to find area.  It was wonderful to see students have the "ah ha" moment when writing the formula for area of a circle.  The circle quiz scores are in the portal.

Tuesday:  Area and Perimeter of irregular figures
Wednesday:  Clean the house for company or look forward to traveling
