Language Arts

Testing went very well last week. Most students finished in about 3.5 hours. I saw a lot of concentration and dedication to task. I was very proud of how hard the students worked.

This week we take a look at the idea of redemption and ask: Can a person redeem himself after a life of greed or misdeeds. The students will read stave one of A christmas Carol.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have questions or concerns this year.  mahal001@mpls.k12.mn.us is the best address to use.

Mr Boler Update

We are finishing Unit 6 this week, discussing reform and the progressive era.  We will do some unit review and then have the final assessment on Friday. No homework this week.

- Mrs. Odermatt

Last week we took a quiz on the symbolic "balancing" method of solving equations, and applying it to a real-world situation. Many students did not get a chance to finish on Friday so we're finishing it up on Monday.

This week we'll be looking at translations and reflections of figures on a coordinate plane, and then we'll begin some review and prep for when we begin taking the MCA-III math test next Monday.

- Strategy Instruction

Good Morning,

I hope our latest blast of spring finds you excited about the sounds and smells of the new season!
As we begin this new week of learning, we will focus on completing our point of view pre-test, as well as using a new strategy to compare and contrast characters with vocabulary that we identify as we read texts.
The work on this vocabulary identification/writing strategy will help students by providing them with a structure that they can use in social studies and language arts classes.  The students will be able to focus their thinking on areas where they have lots of details to support their thinking through writing, as well as identifying areas where they need to find more evidence in the text.

Have a great week of reading and writing!

Bike to School Day

Field School will be celebrating national "bike to school" day on Wednesday May 7 with a bike drive for our local community service partner, Full Cycle.  If you are cleaning out your garage this spring and have bikes you would like to donate, please bring them in or ride them to school on May 7 and
Full Cycle will pick them up from the parking lot. Every bike donated will help Full Cycle accomplish their mission to reduce youth homelessness in our community. Our goal is to collect 100 bikes.
Field students packed 520 "GO PACKS" last Wednesday with the challenge to "Take one and GIVE one" to someone who is struggling in our neighborhood.  Through a community service grant we received, student council purchased high protein
snacks and invited students to pack them in a baggie along with an encouraging message and a list of community resources. The excitement and enthusiasm was

wonderful as we made "GO Packs" and we hope our students take the opportunity to impact our community in a positive way.  Ask your child if they participated in the event during lunch and if you are driving in your car and see someone who needs assistance, give them a "go pack" and a smile. Thanks to student council member Cate Dymit for putting together a fantastic video promoting the "Go Pack" initiative!

Twins logo

Dear Parents/Guardians of Field Middle School Students:

The Minnesota Twins recognize that good performance in school begins with good attendance and they're excited to team up with Minnesota Middle School Association (MMSA) to create the

Perfect Attendance Incentive Program

To become eligible, students must simply have "perfect attendance" for the 2013-2014 school year during quarters 3&4.   The reason the Minnesota Twins and MMSA have established this program is because they recognize the importance of having students in each class every day.

Hale read-a-thon surprise guest Twins

What are the Twins offering

Field Middle School will select one student to attend the game against the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, May 17, 2014

The Twins will provide 4 tickets for that student and up to three parents/guardians/siblings to attend.

We would like to thank both the MMSA and the Twins for supporting the Attendance Incentive Program and our students.

If you have any questions regarding this incentive program,

please feel free to call Mr. Norlin-Weaver at 612-668-3640

or Ms. Julie Peterson at 612-668-3655.
