For the next week we will be doing a bit of review and test prep. We will also be looking at Greek and Latin prefix/root/suffix. Kids will have homework to study or make flash cards each night.

MCA reading test are coming up next Tuesday and Wednesday. The kids will be spending the morning testing and have core classes in the afternoon.

    Math - Mr. West

Hello everybody! This week we continue our study of probability. We will also start to do some review in anticipation of the MCA math tests. The 7th grade math MCAs will be May 1st through 4th.

    Social Studies -- Ms. Odermatt

Welcome back, Field Families! We are in the home stretch with the start of the 4th quarter. In World Studies, we are beginning the unit on Asia which will span several weeks. Homework will be due on Friday, April 13th.

    Science - Mr. Boler

The content this week will focus on Mono Lake - a relatively simple ecosystem. This will allow students to get basics down and learn the essential and generalizable features that guide the study of all ecosystems.

Homework (RA3 Mono Lake) will be given out on Monday and due back by Friday (turn in on Tuesday for 2 e.c. pts).

Our current unit, Populations and Ecosystems, was created by FOSS (Full Option Science Service) - this means the FOSS link on the 7th grade website can be very helpful with content understanding.

To reinforce content understanding go to the 7th grade science web page at the link below. The website includes a) powerpoint weekly reviews, b) content links, and c) connection instructions to FOSS and Discovery Education websites.

    Family Focus

February Enforcing consequences can be tough - your teen needs you as a parent, not a pal! It may be hard to believe but teenagers want rules and limits set for them. Establish family rules and expectations and then set appropriate consequences for not following a rule. Teens are less likely to engage in inappropriate behavior that they have previously discussed and established clear consequences for with their parent(s). Be consistent. And most importantly, notice and acknowledge the positive.

January: The middle school years are a good time to start giving your teen more independence; It helps them establish their own place in the world. As your teen becomes more reliable and mature increase privileges and opportunities for independence. If they fall, they still have you to catch them and to guide them before they are out on their own. Remember some of life's most valuable lessons are learned through life experiences! Struggling navigating through the teen years? Two Field parents developed an app that answers alot of teens' -- and their parents'-- tough questions about things they face: relationships, mental health, substance abuse, bullying, etc. called teensphere. You can learn more about the app at teensphere.com. Check it out!

December Did you know that having an "attitude of gratitude" has been linked to better health, sounder sleep, less anxiety and depression, higher long-term satisfaction with life and kinder behavior toward others? Try it with your family! Do one small thoughtful or generous thing for each member of your family daily; express your appreciation for someone's skills or talents.
