A Great Opportunity!

"Colombian Students are returning! Friendly Families needed! A group of 20 students and 3 chaperone's will be experiencing life at Field School the week of January 28th to February 3rd. We try to match the age of the students, so for this group we are looking for mostly 7 and 8th grade Field families. What you don't need: a big house, a separate bedroom, fluency in Spanish! What you do need: meals and activities you would normally do, a place to sleep, a sense of adventure. If you are willing to share your home for a week, contact Julie Peña at: penahaha@gmail.com or Sylvia Lotz at; sylvialotz@yahoo.com.

This week in Language Arts students are working on a 4 paragraph opinion paper. Our topic is taken from our last story, You Are Only A Boy, a tale of a 12 year-old from Mexico. We have discussed immigration both legal and illegal and our papers stem from our reading and discussions.

I wish all of you a fun, safe and restful winter vacation. MC

    Math - Mr. West

Hello everybody! This week we are focusing on the idea of slope, what it means, how to calculate it, where to find it on a table, in an equation and on a graph. We are also continuing to concentrate on tying together graphs, tables and equations.

After the break we will spend quite a bit of time reviewing before we take the Unit Test.

    Social Studies -- Ms. Odermatt

We're on the home stretch towards winter break! We are learning about social reform and how groups like abolitionists and women suffragists fought to make a difference in America. Students created abolitionist newspapers and posters to show what they have learned so far. After break we will begin the Civil War unit. Have a wonderful break with your families!

    Science - Mr. Boler

In Inquiry # 6, students will use a bunsen burner to heat six substances in test tubes and record their observations. This inquiry is used to begin to help students understand physical versus chemical changes to pure substances.

Inquiry 7 involves recording temperature and observations as heat is applied to ice and ice changes to liquid and then to water vapor.

A group quiz will be given on either Wednesday or Thursday this week. This is an open notebook/folder quiz but its wise to reviewed notes, RA's and other assignments prior to taking the quiz.

Homework, RA4 States of Matter, will be given out on Monday, due back by Friday. Homework turned in on Tuesday will receive a 4% bonus.
