Winter Conferences were last week.
Thank you to the many parents and students who came to participate in conferences, as we developed plans for successful completion of the 2nd semester. -- If you wanted a conference for your child, and were not able to set one up, we want you to know that we can still schedule conferences as needed.  If desired, please contact Mr. Usem at mark.usem@mpls.k12.mn.us to schedule.

History Day projects are due a week from today on Tuesday, February 28th!  Students are busy writing and typing their summaries(background, buildup, main event, short term impact, long term impact) and identifying images and primary sources.   Students doing an exhibit board will need to purchase a 3-fold board.  They can be found at Walgreens, Michaels, Target, etc. Also, those students working with partners will need to communicate in order to get together outside of school when necessary.  We will continue to have time in class each day to access information online and to print any images needed.
"History Day" is Wednesday, March 1st.  Students will head to the media center during their class period and present their projects.  All parents are welcome to come and be a part of this event.  Also, I am in need of parent volunteers to interview students as they present their work.  This is a chance for the students to show what they know and be proud of the work they did. Even just one class period is helpful to me!  (see my email below)

I am still in need of assistance in the classroom this week if you are interested!
Students need help navigating websites,  writing their bibliographies, and putting all the ideas together for their History Day projects.
 Please contact me at nicole.odermatt@mpls.k12.mn.us

The History Day theme for this year is "Taking a Stand".  Projects are due February 28th.
Feel free to check out this website for information:

Tuesday students will take their LT Quiz on LT #4.6 & 4.7 on probability. Students who don't finish on Tuesday will get about 15 additional minutes to work in class on Wednesday to finish.

Wednesday we begin our new unit on Linear relationships (Linear Algebra); we'll be using the CMP text called "Moving Straight Ahead".

Many students are missing some homework assignments, so check the portal for those. Also, remind students to keep track of deadlines for LT Quiz re-takes (see below).

      - Mr. Usem

Students who received a score of 70% or below on Learning Target quizzes need to re-take
them to improve their score and to receive a passing grade showing that they understand the learning target. To see the cut-off scores for re-taking each quiz, t
hey are listed on each specific day
on the "Classwork & Homework" LINK section of my webpage.
* In order to do a re-take, students need to KEEP their old quiz, and BRING it in, with the correct answers (with explanations) on a SEPARATE SHEET [forms are available in Mr. Usem's room or downloadable from his webpage] on the items they missed. This will qualify them "ready to re-take" the quiz. Re-takes are to be done outside of regular class time, and can be done before-school, after-school, during recess, during Advisory study-hall on Thursdays,  or during another time arranged with Mr. Usem. Students should make arrangements with Mr. Usem to do the re-takes. Students will have at least 2 weeks from when the quizzes are handed back to complete the re-take.
- The DEADLINE for re-takes on the LT #4.3 & 4.4 quizzes is... Friday, Feb 24.
- The DEADLINE for re-takes on the LT #4.5 quiz is... Friday, Mar 3.

- students can come and work with Mr. Usem a variety of times each day, if they need extra help. Available times are posted in the classroom, as well as on Mr. Usem's webpage.

The webpage lists what classwork we've done in class each day, references students' homework assignments, lists an availability schedule for students who need extra help, and has resources for parents & students.
