January 20, 2015
This week starts the beginning of 3rd Quarter.
three quarters
This is a great time for students to re-evaluate how the year's been going!
- Talk with your student about things that they feel are going well, and things that they feel could go better. Make a plan for starting out the 2nd semester with positive goals, and a "can do" mindset.

HELP NEEDED!
At the start of the year we had about 40 highlighters, we are down to 5. We use highlighters each week and the lack of them is, "putting a hitch in our gitty-up" (We learned about colloquialism last week. ) Seriously we would welcome any highlighter donations.

This week we will focus on the poem, justice by w.r. rodriguez.

Reader's Workshop

This week in Reader's Workshop students will complete a unit on note-taking methods. They will continue to practice using outlining, mind mapping, and the Cornell method to organize their notes for a piece of nonfiction writing. Students are required to write a summary of the notes in their own words.  Finally, some students need to finish the MAP (Measures of
Academic Progress) Reading test. The purpose of the test is to measure students' reading progress from fall to winter.
