7th Grade Newsletter
2014-2015

June 1, 2015

Well... here we are... the last week of school!
(...and the FINAL 7th-Grade newsletter for this year!)

And, can you believe it... we're still holding classes! ...well for most of the week anyway!  Help your student stay focused and plan for 3 good days of instruction, final testing, and reviewing all that they've learned and accomplished over the past school year.

Thursday, June 4, we'll be launching rockets at McRae Park.
Parents are welcome at McRae to watch and to act as chaperones - students will be playing games before or after their rocket launch.  The morning group (science periods 2 and 4) will be at the park from about 9:50-12:00 and the afternoon group (science periods 6 and 7) from approximately 12:25 to 2:25. The rockets are made from 2-liter plastic bottles and are fueled by compressed air.

** Parents are welcome to watch and help supervise!  If you can attend one of the sessions please contact Mr. Boler at: leon.boler@mpls.k12.mn.us

---  ---  ---
Base Camp field trip is the last day of school on June 5.

If you haven't returned the permission slip yet, Please ask for it from your student, or contact us for another slip, and have them return it ASAP this week to Ms. Halasz. Cost of the Base Camp trip is $26 per student.
[...Of course, we want ALL of our 7th-grade students to be able to join us on this trip... If this cost presents a hardship for any family, scholarships for the Base Camp trip are available... contact any 7th-grade teacher, Ms. Graff (social worker), or Mr. Yohe (school counselor), if you there is such a need.

ONE FINAL PLEA...

Make sure students are aware of any FINAL deadlines for submitting work, especially missing work. While many students think they can submit work right up until the last day of school, this is usually not true... many teachers cut-off accepting work BEFORE the final day of school, so that they can get grading done and submit grades by the end of the school year. If your child is in this situation, make sure your student checks in with his/her teachers, to know when they can submit work and still receive credit.

It's been a great year in 7th-grade at Field School. Like any school year, it's had its ups and downs. We all realize that 7th-grade can be a challenge for most students, but it's also a tremendous learning and growth experience. As a team, we would like you to know that we feel honored and privileged that you've entrusted your children to our care and instruction over the past year. We take this very seriously. We look forward to watching them continue to learn, grow, and mature next year as they become 8th-graders in just a week, and they continue their last year at middle-school level at Field next fall.

Hope you all have a terrific summer!

Students may view their test results on the grading portal.  We still have a few students that need to take or finish the test so tests will be passed back on Tuesday June 2nd.

To receive 1/2 credit back on any test item that you got wrong - completely write out and explain the correct thinking for each test item that you got wrong.  Write neatly and turn in your write-up with your test by Friday Morning.

This week:

Monday - Frog dissection

Tuesday - Prepare Rockets part 1

Wednesday - Prepare Rockets part 2

Thursday - Rocket Day at McRae park (Parents, see notice above if you can attend.)

  Math

This week we're finishing off Monday through Wednesday with some fun work on examining probability.

*Note: Students turned in their text "Looking for Pythagoras" last Friday (unless they needed it to complete any missing ACE assignments form the text) If you find any CMP math text books from this year still lying around at home, be sure to have them returned to the school media center ASAP, or students will be charged for the missing text books,

All "Late" missing assignments, are due by Wednesday, June 3, in order to give me time to grade them so that they receive credit.

Please talk with your student to see if this situation affects them.

It's been a good year with your children. Realizing that it's middle-school, and 7th-grade, there are often times some bumps and hurdles to cross along the way, but overall the students have performed well. It's been a pleasure having them in class. I look forward to seeing them at Field next year, applying what they've learned as they continue to build upon their new math skills and understandings.

...Wishing everyone a terrific summer of fun and growth!

A Message from the Principal

Field Families,

This is a reminder that we have 5 very full days left of school this year.  This includes June 5 which is a required school day.  Every grade level has special field trips organized as part of the last day. Teacher teams have planned, made arrangements and budgeted for their students to attend.  The field trips celebrate the completion of the passing year, and help to build relationships for students as they move toward the coming school year.   We look forward to seeing your child in school each and every day as we wind up the school year.
