Please contact Wendy Wolff if you are interested in being a chaperone for the 6th-8th grade Spring Dance! The "Black Out" dance will be held in the Field Commons on Friday March 22 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. We need volunteers to help with set up, managing the food table, coat check, supervising the dance floor and inspiring students to have fun in a positive environment. I can be reached at 612.668.3654 or via email, wendy.wolff@mpls.k12.mn.us. We look forward to another fun event!

This week we will work on Stave 2. The students are looking for places where greed, redemption, charity, and forgiveness are shown. The text is very complex so it is a work-out for some. :) One piece the kids seem to like is when we compare the book to the 1952 movie version. It took a while for them to get used to the black and white film but now we are into it. Maybe spring will arrive in Minnesota as Mr. Scrooge warms up.

After Spring vacation we will work on our public speaking skills through a unit on speech and debate. Oh the fun never ends.

    Math - Mr. West

Hello everybody! This week we continue our study of probability. We have been working on the idea of expected value, or long term average, and are now focusing on binomial probability, situations where two outcomes are possible. Next week we will be finishing up this unit, reviewing and taking the unit test.

    Social Studies -- Ms. Odermatt

Students took a test last week on Reconstruction and most did very well! We've launched into our new unit about Life in the West. We'll do an activity in the computer lab this week in order to get more of a sense about life for settlers, homesteaders, cowboys, and the Native Americans struggle to keep their land. No homework this week.

    Science - Mr. Boler

Last Friday we started our new unit of study: Human Body Systems. Students will receive homework: RA1 The Digestive System, on Monday (due date is Friday).

Property of Matter tests will be passed back on Tuesday. Students will have one week to correct any mistakes they made by rewriting (on a separate piece of paper) the test items that they got wrong with the correct answer and a short explanation as to why the corrected answer is the right choice. Students will receive half credit for each test item they correct. Corrected test items are due next Tuesday (March 19).
