The Ski Trip!

This Friday is the 7th/8th grade ski trip to Highland Hills. It promises to be a beautiful day and there's plenty of snow. Please help your child to remember to bring in their permission slip in the next couple days so we can all be off for a fantastic day! Thanks so much to all of you who have donated extra money to help pay for scholarships for this trip.

Long Lake

Just a reminder to send in your final Long Lake payments if you haven't done so.

Many have you have probably heard that Ms. Halasz has been out of school with viral meningitis. She came home from the hospital on Saturday and is recovering there. During her absence Ms. Meyer has been working hard in her stead. Recovery from meningitis is a gradual process, but Ms. Halasz may possibly be back later this week.

    Math - Mr. West

We worked hard last week to come to a successful understanding of surface area and volume of prisms and cylinders. This week we are working on area and perimeter of sectors of circles. We will be spending some time on volume of spheres and cones and then reviewing and taking a test on the Filling and Wrapping unit next week.

In next weeks newsletter I'll be informing you of online sites that students will be able to use to complete some of their homework.

    Social Studies -- Ms. Odermatt

We've begun the unit on Latin America which includes Mexico, Central America, and South America. Students will begin a research project in the computer lab this week and will prepare to know the countries on the map for next week.

    Science - Mr. Boler

The HUMAN BODY UNIT TEST is scheduled for Wednesday March 7th. Students received a review packet last Wednesday (February 29th)

On Monday we will go over the review packet to make sure students have all the correct answers. I will also put the correct answers on the 7th grade web page. Tuesday will be a partial review day in the computer lab.

Homework for Monday and Tuesday is to continue studying for the test. The test is worth about 40% of their 3rd quarter grade.

To reinforce content understanding (AND TO PREPARE FOR 3/7 TEST) go to the 7th grade science web page at the link below. The website includes a) powerpoint weekly reviews, b) content links, and c) connection instructions to FOSS and Discovery Education websites.

    Family Focus

January: The middle school years are a good time to start giving your teen more independence; It helps them establish their own place in the world. As your teen becomes more reliable and mature increase privileges and opportunities for independence. If they fall, they still have you to catch them and to guide them before they are out on their own. Remember some of life's most valuable lessons are learned through life experiences! Struggling navigating through the teen years? Two Field parents developed an app that answers alot of teens' -- and their parents'-- tough questions about things they face: relationships, mental health, substance abuse, bullying, etc. called teensphere. You can learn more about the app at teensphere.com. Check it out!

December Did you know that having an "attitude of gratitude" has been linked to better health, sounder sleep, less anxiety and depression, higher long-term satisfaction with life and kinder behavior toward others? Try it with your family! Do one small thoughtful or generous thing for each member of your family daily; express your appreciation for someone's skills or talents.
