We were very excited last Friday to welcome back Mr. Boler.   We are thrilled that he is feeling better, and that he is able to finish out the next couple of weeks with our students as we complete our 7th-grade this year!

 "
Thank you" to Ms. Norvell for stepping up to the plate and helping us out while Mr. Boler was recovering. She is a great teacher, who really sunk her heart into the position! We'll miss her!

Waterpark-of-America
Field trip is the last day of school on June 6.

Permission slips for this trip will be sent home this week.
Please look for them from your student, and have them return them ASAP this week, as we know things get rather crazy during the last week of school. Cost of the Waterpark trip is $20 per student.
[...Of course, we want ALL of our 7th-grade students to be able to join us on this trip... If this cost presents a hardship for any family, scholarships for the waterpark trip are available... contact any 7th-grade teacher, Ms. Peterson (social worker), or Ms. Wolff (counselor), if you there is such a need.  -contact info is on the right panel]

-----  -----  -----  -----  -----
Students are busy with spring sports, concerts, family events, and still trying to keep up on schoolwork (yup... we're still having classes!). Many are trying to also work on missing work and bringing up their grades. Help them stay on-track and organized.

Make sure students are aware of any FINAL deadlines for submitting work, especially missing work. While many students think they can submit work right up until the last day of school, this is usually not true... many teachers cut-off accepting work BEFORE the final day of school, so that they can get grading done and submit grades by the end of the school year. If your child is in this situation, make sure your student checks in with his/her teachers, to know when they can submit work and still receive credit.

The end is in sight... We are working on finishing up all the loose ends in A Christmas Carol.

This week we will watch the end of the movie, present our transformation projects and play a Jepordy review game. Let's hope we have time for all of that.

Thanks for sending me such great students to work with this year. It has been a great pleasure. Happy Summer!

Feel free to e-mail me if you have questions or concerns this year.  mahal001@mpls.k12.mn.us is the best address to use.

It's great to be back - thank you to all the students for sending cards while I was on the mend!  Also, a big thank you to Ms Norvell for her awesome work in keeping the science learning on track!!

There will be a Human Body Systems test this week on Thursday.  Students received a review guide last Thursday and we will go over that to make sure they have the correct answers.  Students should also study their notebooks, Reading Assignments, and all other handouts from this quarter.

Homework: Study for the test!

In class this week, students will view propaganda posters and infer what they convey about life on the "homefront" during WWII.  We will briefly study the battles of the war and have a lesson on the Holocaust.  The unit will end with some time for review in class with the final test of the year next Tuesday, June 3rd.  All missing work should be in by then.

 Math

We are beginning this week with the benchmark exam on our

linear equation unit. We devoted last week to finishing up the unit, working on understanding slope, and connecting linear equations to tables, graphs, and appropriate context, before the exam.

Many students are missing assignments, or have opportunities to re-take quizzes, and need to focus on these things this week as we get close to the end of the quarter.

-- I have informed students that for MATH CLASS the deadline to turn-in all "Late" missing assignments, and to complete any re-takes of quizzes, is by this Friday, May 30th, in order to give me time to grade them so that they receive credit.

For students who have been gone for extended illness, or who have special circumstances, please talk to Mr. Usem to discuss appropriate and reasonable submission of your work. Please talk with your student to see if these situations affect them.

After completing the benchmark exam, we will be finishing our year with some work with data concepts.

Good Morning,
This week, we continue our work on standards connected to point of view as they relate to writing and reading. Some students will continue to skip portions of the lessons, as they have shown their mastery of parts of the standards based on their point of view pre-test. Students will receive feedback as this week goes on about their point of view writing from me.  Students will be viewing point of view power points that are set up for them based on their current understandings.

Have a great week of reading and writing!
