SHORT WEEK FOR STUDENTS THIS WEEK  -

-This week we will have school for students
only on Monday and Tuesday (Oct 16 & 17)

Conferences continue this week.

We are now full on our entire conference schedule... Tuesdday evening (Oct. 17), and on Wednesday morning (Oct. 18).  During your assigned conference time you will briefly visit with all 4 core teachers

If you don't remember your conference time, email and send a note to any teacher on the 7th-grade team, and we will let you know when you are scheduled.

If you missed signing up and still would like to meet for a conference outside of the regular conference times, you can email your child's advisory teacher, and they will try to arrange a conference sometime before or after the regular school day after MEA Break. It might be difficult to get all teachers together at the same time, but we will still make the effort to touch base with you about your child's progress in school, relaying information for any teacher who cannot make the arranged meeting.

Although this week is a short one the students have plenty to do. They will start off Monday with sharing their personal narrative story with three classmates. Following the share out students will have a mini lesson by Mr. Meaney on how to create an opening paragraph. And the remainder of the time will be spent writing the rough draft.

Today students will meet in their small groups in which they will be either plaintiff or defendant attorney or judge.  After preparing their arguments and questions, they will have a court simulation to determine whether the Arizona Immigration Law of 2010 is constitutional or not.
In anticipation of our Unit 1 test, students will receive a study guide and will have time in class to prepare and review for the test which is on Tuesday, October 24th.
Enjoy the time off with your family!

The Distributive Property of Multiplication over Addition

This short week we will finish our study of learning about some basic basic number properties... (1) the commutative property, (2) the associative property, and (3) the distributive property. We will take time to practice using these properties, and begin to prepare for the learning target quizzes on those properties (#2.9) and on order-of-operations (#2.8), that will come up on Tuesday next week.

-------------------------------------------------
**QUIZ RE-TAKE POLICY:
Any students may re-take Learning Target quizzes to try to improve their score and to receive a passing grade showing that they understand the learning target. The top grade possible on a quiz "re-take" is an 85% score (a solid "B" grade).

* In order to do a re-take, students need to KEEP their old quiz, and BRING it in, with the correct answers (with explanations) on a SEPARATE SHEET [forms are available in Mr. Usem's room or downloadable from his webpage] on the items they missed. This will qualify them "ready to re-take" the quiz. Re-takes are to be done outside of regular class time, and can be done before-school, after-school, during recess, during Advisory study-hall on Thursdays, or during another time arranged with Mr. Usem. Students should make arrangements with Mr. Usem to do the re-takes.

-
The DEADLINE for re-takes on the LT #2.1 & 2.2 quiz is... Tuesday, Oct 17.
-The DEADLINE for re-takes on the LT #2.3, 2.4 & 2.5 quiz is... Friday, Oct 27.

- students can come and work with Mr. Usem a variety of times each day, if they need extra help. Available times are posted in the classroom, as well as on Mr. Usem's webpage.
---------------------------------------------------------------

The webpage lists what classwork we've done in class each day, references students' homework assignments, lists an availability schedule for students who need extra help, and has resources for parents & students.
