Conferences! Conferences! Conferences! We will be conferencing Tuesday after school and all day Wednesday.

We had a little trouble keeping to our schedule in a fair way last Thursday evening, so we are going to ask those of you with a conference scheduled on Tuesday or Wednesday to be sure and arrive on time because we are really going to stick very tightly to the schedule. We want to make sure everyone gets to talk to us in a timely manner.

We apologize to those of you who had to spend time waiting to see us on Thursday. We will try to learn from our mistakes.

    Math - Mr. West

We took the Unit Test last week and started on our next unit of study, Comparing and Scaling. I will finish grading the tests by the end of teacher convention weekend.

    Social Studies -- Ms. Harper

    Science - Mr. Boler

On Monday students spent part of their science period preparing for Tuesday's test by using the 7th grade science web site and other helpful links.

The first science test of the year will be given on Tuesday October 18th. Student's received a test review packet last Thursday (October 13). To prepare themselves for the test, students should spend at least two hours (between Thursday and Tuesday) studying their review packet, vocabulary, notes, completed assignments, and, on the science web page: weekly powerpoints, content links, and the Foss web site.

Science Bowl is back! Science Bowl is an afterschool science team that meets every Monday from 2:45-3:45 starting on October 31st. At our practices we learn to play the Science Bowl game, train for the 2012 competition, and take scientific field trips. We study all branches of science and also math. Interested students should get a flyer and an application form from Mr. Boler or Ms. Schultz, the co-coaches. Application forms should be returned ASAP to reserve your spot!

    AVID decades of college dreams

AVID students will continue looking up and recording their grades today. They will also write an action plan for the week based on the information they find in the student portal and their upcoming assignments.

Mr. Kambale, our lead tutor for AVID, is currently available to help students with academic classes after school on Tues., Thurs., and Fri. from 2:40-4:40. I am usually available on these days also, as well as most Mondays and during 7th and 8th grade lunch and recess.

I would like to encourage all AVID families to stop by the AVID room before or after your regular conference time. Conferences begin this Thursday in the evening. If you don't currently have a conference scheduled, be sure to contact the school. Conferences are an invaluable time to connect with families, even when your student is doing fantastic in all their classes. Due to the fact that I see students in three different grades, my conferences are on a drop in basis. Parents of returning AVID students should note that AVID has moved to room 117, across from the office.

Students who are new to Field are welcome to stop by the AVID room for an application.
