Here is some important information regarding attendance from our social worker, Julie Peterson:

Welcome back! As we get back into the swing of the school year, I'd like to take this opportunity to remind families that your child's attendance matters! A missed school day is a lost opportunity for students to learn. Did you know that students who attend school at least 95% of the time are (missing no more than eight days of school):

One-and-a-half times more likely to be on track to graduate on time

Perform better in math and reading

Have fewer suspensions

Are less likely to fail a class

Are more likely to achieve their dreams and enroll in college.

If your child needs to miss school for any reason, please call the school at 612-668-3640. Please see your Hale/Field Handbook for a list of excused absences. For more information regarding Minneapolis Public Schools attendance policies please go to www.attendtoachieve.org. Looking forward to a great year! Julie Peterson School Social Worker

Here is a message from the Site Council:

  • Language Arts - Ms. Halasz

Ms. Halasz will return to school next Monday. She has been gone due to the sudden and unexpected death of her father. Please keep Ms. Halasz and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

    Math - Mr. West

Mr. West went to attend the funeral of Ms. Halasz's father in Indiana. He will be back in school tomorrow and back in the newsletter next week.

    Social Studies -- Ms. Odermatt

This week in Social Studies we are comparing the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 to the Arizona Immigration Law that was passed in 2010 and ruled on this summer. Students will then conduct their own case study acting as attorneys and judges in small groups. Hopefully we will all have a better understanding of "judicial review" and the role it plays in U.S. government. Good news for students- no homework this week!

    Science - Mr. Boler

This week students will use their microscope skills to discover the basic unit of life. Specimens include: Elodea, Paramecia, Euglena, Volvox and Spirogyra (among others). Which of these is pictured at right?

For homework this week students are to complete RA2 Microscopes and the Metric System. It will be due Friday but early turn-ins are much appreciated (turn in by Tuesday for a 4% bonus).

To increase content understanding visit the 7th grade science web site at the URL listed below. In addition to links to FOSS and Discovery Education, weekly powerpoint reviews are uploaded to this website.
