We are still seeking Valleyfair permission slips from some students! Monday is the absolute last day to turn in a permission slip! Use this link to print out a new one! Please be aware the busses will return to Field at 4:15 and students must have transportation home from Field.

Change in policy for students staying late; Chaperones have the option to meet us at the front gate at 3:15 or you may write a new note indicating it is okay to leave your child there and specify who will pick him/her up later. We hope this makes it easier for parents who do now wish to face the hassle of traffic twice. Students who wish to stay late at Valleyfair must have a note by Monday, June 4!

On Tuesday, June 4, we will begin the final day of school with the 8th grade recognition ceremony at 8:15 am in the Commons. Parents are encouraged to join us. The ceremony will end around 9:15.

Calling all books! Does your child have unused classroom or media books sitting around at home or in a locker? Now is a good time to return any books that are no longer being used!

Here's what's happening in eighth grade this week...

Language Arts - Ms. Constant

Final public speaking lesson today: how to create and properly participate in toasts! This is a fun end-of-the-year activity that gives us a chance to celebrate the work we've done and look forward to the opportunities ahead.

I am proud of the work students have done this year. I've seen a lot of growth in their skills and their maturity. I have greatly enjoyed sharing this year of laughter and learning with the 8th graders!

Linear Algebra (8th Grade Algebra) ~ Mr. Leavitt

Hello Field families.

Thank you for a really terrific year with the 8th grade. I can't thank you enough.

We played with "Green Globs and Graphing Equations" this week. Students outdid themselves in their efforts to write linear equations (and quadratic equations, and trigonometric equations, as well as equations for circles). Click here for a video of a game.

"Green Globs and Graphing Equations" isn't expensive - $20 for 3 computers. 3 students can chip in _____ (fill in the blank) and have unlimited mathematical fun all summer. Plus they'll be learning a whole lot.

I have created an online survey for feedback from parents and guardians. I'd love it if you'd give me some feedback. Click here for the survey.

Please never hesitate to get in touch. 8th grade math has a lifetime guarantee. Just let me know how I can help and I'll do my best.

Seth Leavitt

Intermediate Algebra (9th Grade Algebra) ~ Mr. Leavitt & Mr. Feuling

Hello Field families.

Thank you for letting us teach Intermediate Algebra to 8th graders this year. It has been great.

Students took their Final Exam this past Thursday and Friday. A bonus question asked for insights into better ways to teach the course. We received quite a lot of good advice. If you have any advice, please don't hesitate to tell us. You can reach us at our contact information below. You can also fill in a Parent/Guardian survey.

We will give students their recommendations for their 9th grade coursework on Monday. We will also send the information home by US Mail. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Science ~ Ms. Schultz

Science Update

One last day of 8th grade science remains. On Monday we will prepare for Tuesday's Green Card ceremony so that students know what to expect and feel confident in completing their part of the program. I will also discuss important logistics of our Valleyfair trip with students.

I am excited to celebrate the end of a focused, productive, and scientific year with students and families. I have great confidence that Field 8th graders are both eager and ready for the challenges that await them next year in high school. It has been my sincere pleasure to get to know all of the individuals in this talented group of students. I hope everyone continues to take their knowledge outside of the classroom and observe and ask questions about the science happening all around us.

U.S. History ~ Mr. Kafura

Wow, what a year! It has been wonderful working with all of the 8th graders this year. I am so impressed with all of the work they did throughout the year and hope everyone has a great summer before heading off to high school next year.

Monday in class students will be doing some short surveys for me and we will watch a short, fun clip called "Duck and Cover" to give a quick idea of what life during the Cold War was like. Students who owe me work (especially their atomic bomb opinion and 5 test questions) will have the opportunity to get those done. I will accept any missing work through Tuesday.

Reader's Workshop ~ Mr. Jungwirth

Good Reading to the Field Community!

This final week, we will be work on finishing up our reading of the "Crossbones" book that the students have been reading We will also take our final spelling test to check on word knowledge growth.

As the final week is here , look for a text with the word "final" in the title. Read away! Have a great reading summer and a great week!
