Welcome Field Mice Families!

Tissues!

It has been quite the cold/flu season this year with multiple rounds hitting the 8th grade.  As you might expect this has led to our tissue supply running low.  If you have a box or two to spare at home it would be much appreciated if you sent it in with your student to add to our classroom supply.  Thank you to families who sent in boxes last week, it is much appreciated!

MCA Testing

MCA testing begins this week.  Along with the yearly Reading and Math MCAs, students will also take the Science MCA again this year.  While students will be preparing for these in class there are also things students can do at home in order to perform to the best of their ability.  Students should make sure to get a full night's sleep and eat breakfast/lunch on testing days (and regular school days).  All we ask is for students to put forth their best effort, to best represent themselves and their abilities.

Global Studies

Students will get their quizzes back this week.  As a reminder, students may fix any quiz or project to receive points back, but before turning it in they should make sure to make ALL corrections COMPLETELY.  I am always available if they need help doing this.  We began our United Nations unit that will take us to spring break last week.  Unfortunately due to funding cuts I am unable to have a full Model UN as in years past, however I am doing my best to ensure a Model UN "Light" happens in Global Studies classes the last week before spring break.

Dear Eighth Grader and Family,

Minneapolis Public Schools would like to invite you to be a Fast Track Scholar this summer!  This exciting program provides current 8th grade (going into 9th) students with the opportunity to meet new high school classmates and begin earning high school elective credits.  The goal is to prepare students for a smooth transition to high school. In order to participate, students must meet ALC criteria such as not meeting grade level academic standards, English Language Learner, or having inconsistent school attendance which significantly impacts achievement. AVID students also qualify to attend Fast Track Scholars, and teachers/counselors may recommend students.

More information can be found on the Field website: click HERE!
