For the Week of November 24th, 2014

Welcome to the 8th Grade Newsletter

With the weather getting colder now is good time for a reminder that all winter gear should be stored in students' lockers while they are in class.  This includes hats and is both a school and district policy.  Thanks for your cooperation.

Please continue to check your student portal to stay up to date on grades and missing assignments.  There has been a bit of a slip in students both turning things in and taking advantage of re-do opportunities.  Both are important pieces of the learning process.

If you are able to help, please email Erin Lindsay at Erin.Lindsay@mpls.k12.mn.us.

Students are welcome make corrections on their tests and resubmit them to earn half points back.  To get the points they should figure out the correct answer for multiple choice questions AND write a statement why that is the correct answer.  Short answers and essays can be adjusted or rewritten.  Students may do this directly on the test or attach another piece of paper to their test with their corrections.  Please see Mr. Kafura if you need help or have any questions.

Monday and Tuesday:  Students will have about 20 minutes on Monday to work with their writing from Friday.  We will use the remainder of our time Monday and all day Tuesday to look at the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

Student writing assignments are due at the beginning of class on Tuesday.

Movember
With November comes Movember! Field students are invited to support the Movember campaign that will be raising funding for the Movember Foundation's Men's Health Programs.   Teachers at Field Community volunteered to support this campaign by sporting a new beard/mustache style for the month of November. During the lunch periods on November 10, 11, 14, 17, 19, 21, students can vote for a teacher of choice and a beard/mustache style for that particular teacher to grow and  wear. Each vote will be $.25. Students can vote for multiple teachers or even a single teacher multiple times. At the end of the month each teacher will shave and groom as determined by the collection of student votes.

If you want to learn more about the Movember foundation, go to us.movember.com

Thank you for your support and let's have some fun with this!
