For the Week of November 30th 2015
Welcome Back!
We hope students had a nice mini break.  We only have 3 weeks until winter break.  It is strongly suggested that students complete missing work or fix ups before then.  Please contact your student's teachers if you have any questions.

English Language Arts (ELA)

OUR VISIT TO THE WEISMAN MUSEUM THIS TUESDAY WILL FOCUS ON CREATING AN ART COLLAGE BASED UPON THE ART WORK THEY CHOSE AND THE POEMS THEY HAVE CREATED.
OVERDUE WEISMAN POEMS MUST BE TURNED IN!

CHECK YOUR STUDENT PORTAL FOR MISSING WORK!

This I Believe Final Drafts!
Students will receive a grade and feedback on their final This I Believe(TIB) Drafts 
by the following week!
 
Monday
: Work on Weisman Collage
Tuesday: Trip to the Weisman Museum!
Wednesday: Final Day to complete Weisman Collage in-class WEISMAN COLLAGE DUE BY FRIDAY!
Thursday: Introduction to Bronx Masquerade / Poetic Devices Glossary
Friday: Bronx Masquerade / Poem Collection / Begin Open Mic Fridays!

While we begin readingBronx Masquerade this week, students are expected to read independently at home and record their independent reading on their monthly survey worksheet!  
INDEPENDENT READING SURVEY AND ACTIVITY  MUST BE OTHER THAN OUR CLASS TEXT FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SHOOL YEAR. 
This month's reading activity is completing an online survey that can be found on my webpage here!

 Students may fix their tests to earn some of their missing points back. For multiple choice questions students should select the correct answer and write a brief statement why that answer is correct.  For short answers and short essays students should fix/add to their original answers as needed.

The Board of Education will vote in December on the new district calendar for 2016-2019. The proposed calendar will use the same general schedule as our current school calendar. For the 2016-2017 school year, students in grades 1-12 will start on Monday, Aug. 29, with early childhood and kindergarten students beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 31. The last day of school for students Pre-K-11 will be Tuesday, June 13. For more information on the three-year calendar, click here.

Site Council meetings are the 1st Wednesday of the month from 4:00 - 5:30 and are open to anyone wishing to attend.  If you have a topic to discuss you must be on the agenda prior to the meeting.  Please contact the 8th grade representative to be added to the agenda.
