For the Week of November 3rd, 2014

Welcome to the 8th Grade Newsletter

Cold season is approaching and the 8th grade team is running low on tissues.  If you have a spare box at home please send it to school with your student to help with the tissue supply.  Thanks again to everyone who donated supplies at the beginning of the year!

Students will be taking the EXPLORE test on November 11th.  This is a preparation test for the ACT, however without taking the test students cannot receive a high school diploma from a Minnesota High School.  More information will be coming out as we prepare for it, but if you have any specific questions please contact Mr. Yohe.

This I Believe
This week students begin focusing on the writing process by drafting essays based upon beliefs that stem from personal experiences. Students will evaluate essays from NPR's This I Believe to provide background and practice in constructing their own essays.

Final essays will be due the following week.
If you have any questions please email me at michael.sundlin@mpls.k12.mn.us

Intermediate Algebra

Students will be taking the Functions Test this Monday.  Tuesday - Friday the students will be in the lab taking the OLPA test.  This test is similar to the MCA and it will show me what skills the students have mastered and what skills we need to spend more time on before the end of the year. I will also be sending out a letter at the end of this week or early next week letting you know if your child is on track to take Geometry next year or not.  If they are not on track, the letter will state what they can do to practice or improve the skills they do not have.
