Welcome Back, Field Mice Families!

Quarter 2 Begins!
Quarter 2 begins this week, meaning we are halfway through the semester.  It is a good time to review your goals for the school year.  Where are you being successful?  Where do you need to improve?  How will you do that?  We are always looking for ALL students to improve and show growth.

No Sale Fundraiser
The PTA's No Sale Fundraiser has begun.  By donating directly we eliminate students selling things and Hale/Field receive the entire donation.  This is used to fund everything from basic classroom supplies to educational programs to field trips.  

You can donate TODAY at www.GiveMN.org - search No Sale and donate directly to Hale or Field.  Scroll down to click on the Hale project or Field project, depending on which school you want to donate to. 
 
All donations received now through midnight on November 17th, which is the official "Give to the Max Day" count toward the prizes given from GiveMN.  We have been in the top 3 Small Non-Profits for the last 3 years. Let's continue to build on this streak! 



Referendum 2016
If you have not voted, 
TOMORROW IS YOUR DAYTO BE HEARD!!!!

On Nov. 8, Minneapolis voters will be asked to renew the school district's current operating referendum authorization, which expires after the 2016-17 school year. If passed, funding would help Minneapolis Public Schools manage class sizes and provide supportive services and activities for students. The request would authorize the referendum for nine years and be annually adjusted for inflation. Property taxes are not projected to increase if the referendum renewal passes. English Language Arts (ELA)


This I Believe:  Benchmark Summative Assessment

We begin our new quarter, A FRESH START, by creating an expository essay based on a personal belief. Through this essay students will see that authors typically include three types of information in their essays:  a belief statement, experiences that led to the belief, and reflection on the belief.  

Students will also begin focusing on their poetry writing unit, based on their trip to the Weisman Art Museum, and the book  Bronx Masquerade, next week! 

"But I don't have any homework!" Students should have an independent reading book and have established reading 30+ minutes daily to make  individual progress with their comprehension and acquiring vocabulary.

Don't forget!  Students are always welcome to retake any Learning Target Quizzes for which they did not meet the standard so that they may meet it.  Students must meet the standard on every LTQ, achieve a C or better in the class, and score "Meets" or better on the 8th grade MCA to advance at the end of the year.  I am available before school, during advisory, during lunch and recess, and after school on Fridays to facilitate retakes.

Science Onward we go! In the next week or two we'll begin to study how and why we have wind and other weather - we'll get to be amateur meteorologists in no time!  We will have a test next Monday (November 14th on Heat Transfer - Conduction/Radiation/Convection).

  Students will receive their quizzes back this week (I kept them to be entered for 2nd quarter to give students and opportunity to fix them if they need to).  Students can make fixes directly on their quiz to earn half points back.
