8th Grade Newsletter
Week of 23 October 2017

Welcome Field Mice Families!

Here is your spot to find out what's happening in the 8th grade at Field Community School.  In the newsletter you can find reminders about upcoming events, opportunities, and assignments for each of your classes.  Use this resource to help you stay organized as we navigate the waters of 8th grade and get ready for a successful transition to high school!

End of 1st Quarter
For many teachers, the end of 1st quarter is the deadline to turn in any missing work, fixes, or retakes.  This is a great time to get caught up if you need to, so you can finish the quarter strong.  This is also a good time to set new goals for 2nd quarter.  What did you do well with and how can you keep it up?  What has not gone as well, how could you improve?  1st quarter ends on November 1st.

Welcome to 8th grade Language Arts!
This year you will be asked to critically engage your minds to create arguments and opinions you will support with text evidence. There will be a lot of inquiry based discussions as well as working on your writing skills through a variety of writing tasks.

Students will begin their individual essay research project on Dress Code.  We will research Monday and Tuesday, begin the planning and rough draft on Wednesday and Thursday, and peer edit Friday.  They will work on the final draft the following week.
