Our Field GSA will have its first meeting for 7th and 8th graders after school on Monday September 11th.  At this meeting we will be handing out permission slips for QQuest on October 3rd.  (It's October 3rd.)  If you're unable to attend the meeting, please see Mr. Hamilton to get a permission slip.

Language Arts

Welcome to 8th grade Language Arts!
This year you will be asked to critically engage your minds to create arguments and opinions you will support with text evidence. There will be a lot of inquiry based discussions as well as working on your writing skills through a variety of writing tasks.

This week students will be taking the FAST test (Tuesday).
They will also be continuing on with The Giver, reading chapters 4-6 and responding to the study guide questions along with vocabulary.

The first assessment scores are updated in the gradebook - overall the results were good.  We are now in the middle of investigating climate.  We'll have a short assessment Friday.  (How do scientists study climate (distant and recent) and what evidence is there for a a changing climate?)

Topics of Study for the week:

Sea Turtles and Rising Tides   Recent Climate Data Analysis
Questions to ask your student:
How do climatologists study recent climate?
How can we study past climate?
What evidence have you looked at regarding climate?

Have a great week! -Mr. Iverson

Global Studies

Students will have two more work days on their project this week.  The project will be due on Friday. Traditionally this project can be tricky for some students as they are being asked to think in new ways about research and analysis.  It is extremely important for students to pay attention to the project rubric and make good use of their class time.
