Influenza-like Illness

Please keep your chlld home and let us know if your child has a fever of 100 degrees or more AND a cough or sore throat.  Call the Health Office at 612-668-3650.  Your child may return to school 24 hours after the fever is gone without the use of fever reducing medication such as Tylenol or ibuprofen.  This is generally around 5 to 7 days.  For more information see CDC Influenza or the Minnesota Dept. of Health .

Illness and Communicable Diseases
A child should not come to school (and will be sent home from school) if they have or have had :
  • a fever of 100 degrees F (orally) or higher in the past 24 hours WITHOUT fever-reducing medication
  • vomiting or diarrhea in the past 24 hours
  • an undiagnosed skin rash
  • untreated live head lice

Please notify the school if your child has a contagious condition like chicken pox, strep throat or head lice.  Click on the heading above for more information and specific guidelines for various communicable diseases.

Immunizations Needed for School
To go to school in Minneapolis, students must prove that they are up to date with their immunizations or that they are exempt from the requirements for medical reasons or the beliefs of the parent/guardian.  Click on the heading above for more details on what is required. 
Taking Medicine in School
Students who require medication to be given during the school day must have written consent from a parent/guardian and health care provider to take medicine at school. Click on the heading above for specific medication policy/procedures and medication consent forms.
