I'm going to give it to you straight, parents.

Minneapolis Public Schools is facing a 33 MILLION dollar budget deficit for next year. Right now conversations that will have a profound impact on your children's education are happening on what to do about this problem.

You should be part of those conversations.

How? Well, start by filling out the district's budget survey before November 17.

Yes, this likely sounds like a drag. Consider doing it anyway. The survey is actually less about dollars than it is values. In an effort to find out what's most important to you and your family, you'll be asked to choose preferences from a random collection of either/or questions like: Which is more important to you...
...additional support for kids with special needs or yearly salary increases for teachers?
...staff to support student behavior and mental health or more frequently cleaned schools?
...transportation, facilities and equipment for after school athletics or hiring more teachers of color?

There are no right or wrong answers to these questions. It's simply a way for the district to get a sense of the community's priorities before they dive into deeper discussions.

And since we're talking about belt-tightening, now is a good time to also mention the Hale and Field PTA's No-Sale Fundraiser this November. Because the PTA provides financial support for things schools cannot afford (like teacher supplies, technology licenses, and field trips) your financial support is more important now than ever before. See below for more information on how to help make this fundraiser a success. Thank you for your support!

Field Holiday Helpers: URGENT NEED!
We are in desperate need of donor families for this years Holiday Helpers. If you have not signed up to donate, and you would like to help Field families this holiday season, please let us know if you interest as soon as possible.
We have less than half the amount of donors needed to serve the number of families in need. If we don't get more donor families, the program will not be able to run this year.

Financial donations are also welcomed, in lieu of buying gifts.

To be a Field Holiday Helper fill out this form and return it by emailing it ASAP to maritslysne@gmail.com. You will receive information regarding your holiday recipient in mid-November.  Wrapped gifts will be collected at Field from December 4-8.

We also need volunteers to assist with gift drop-offs before and after school on December 4-8 and with Distribution Day on December 9th.  Please volunteer for shifts via SignUp Genius.

Safety Patrol Advisor Volunteer Needed
We want our students to get to school safely and want to start having school patrols to safely cross students. We need a volunteer who would be interested in being the Safety Patrol Advisor. Ideally this would be a parent or community member who is already at or near the school building in the mornings and afternoons to help oversee the patrols. Typically students are arriving from 7:45- 8:00 and leave the campus from 2:40- 3:00. This person would also coordinate the initial training (provided by officer Berryman) and be the point person for students who are enrolled. If you are interested contact our Assistant Principal Sonrisa Shaw at sonrisa.shaw@mpls.k12.mn.us
