Chamber Orchestra received many compliments from the audience as they played for the Middle School Conference at the Convention Center. I was very proud of them!

There were some awesome small groups and solos that played at Barnes & Noble for the fundraiser. Way to go musicians!!

Several concerts in these next 2 weeks for the 7/8 grade groups! The information is printed above.

5/6 Graders - The yellow practice chart for the end of Oct. and most of Nov. was due last week. They have a new one that goes through the winter break.

Their first concert is January.

7/8 Graders - We are almost ready for our performances this week.

*I also want to invite parents and alumni to play along with us on our holiday music. Let me know if you need music sent home.

Private lessons are highly recommended and a great help to your child. If you and your child are interested in studying with a private music teacher, those names are posted on my webpage.

BUTTER BRAIDS!!!!
The orders are in and the delivery date is set for Dec. 12th.  Yes, that is a conflict with the MOA performance for some groups.  I desperately need a volunteer that can be at school from 1:00-5:30.  I will be in and out teaching and will need to leave to perform.  Concert Choir parents this is a great opportunity for you.  I cannot overstate enough how important these few hours are for us.  All students that sold butter braids need to pick up and deliver their orders that night, or put them in the freezer.  We earned a NEW SET OF RISERS FOR OUR CHOIRS!

Art - Del Bey & Robin Jacobs  art-show.jpg

Greetings!

Art classes with Ms. Del are exploring color theory and clay for the 2nd quarter.

7/8 Grade students are beginning clay projects. Students will choose between Judy Chicago 'The Dinner Party' or Ken Price abstract sculptures for inspiration.

5/6 Grade students continued to study color with monochromatic landscapes. Working with tints and shades of one color students created dramatic scenes.

Please visit our online art gallery at www.artsonia.com. 20% of purchases are returned to the art room for supplies.

Media/Technology - Sean Casey

During the month of November, students in 5th and 6th Grade completed their Scratch animations about the topic of bullying, shared them with the other students in their class, and then had the opportunity to think critically (as well as to practice their typing and writing skills) by "reviewing" one another's animations in order to provide their fellow students with feedback.

Students in 7th and 8th Grade completed their Weebly websites (also about the topic of bullying), and then similarly shared them with the other students in their class, had the opportunity to think critically (as well as to practice their typing and writing skills) by "reviewing" one another's websites, and provided their fellow students with feedback.

In the month of December, students in all grades will continue to have opportunities to think critically as we read and review books found in our school library media center, and when we return in January, students will have an even greater opportunity to practice their typing, writing, reading, and reviewing skills as we create and share our own stories!

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about any of the information shared in this month's newsletter, please feel free to contact me at the email address provided below.

Spanish/French - Char Swanson

French students will learn to describe their school schedule and supplies they need for their classes. They will also learn to express their opinions about their classes. At mid quarter, they will be introduced to "what a typical french breakfast" looks like, and how to order food in the target language (croissants, French bread, eclairs and to other pastries). Our November French movie is "Une vie de chat" (A cat in Paris).

Spanish students (7th and 8th grades) will learn about activities related to hobbies and what they like to do after school. They will continue to learn about all the different pronouns that they have not seen yet (you, he/she, and they), and master the Present tense of all 3 types of verbs in Spanish. They will be reading the first of 3 mini novels that they are supposed to have read before graduating to Spanish 2. (Las Aventuras de Isabella).

Spanish students (5th and 6th grades) will learn to describe their schedule, classes and school supplies in Spanish.
They will also learn to express their opinions about their classes. They will be introduced to the music of "Selena" and how she impacted the culture of Latino and Tejano music in the USA.
