Our Spring Concert is quickly approaching!
All the bands and orchestra groups will perform their final concert of the year at South High School in the auditorium on May 22. The 5/6 grade (& 4th grade instrumentalists) will begin the concert at 6:30 pm. The 7/8 grade groups will begin about 7:45 pm. There will be a shortened version of the concert that morning.

-5/6 grade string players should arrive at 6:00 pm. All other band & string students should arrive 15 prior to performance.
-All performers will wear their concert shirts and khaki/tan pants.
-We will also be honoring our 8th graders at this concert.

5/6 Graders -There are still too many students who have not turned in their practice charts for March, and now the April chart is due also.

Students can rent their instruments over the summer for $15.00 if they are returning to Field School in the fall. Papers will be coming home and will also be available at the concert.

Let me know if you have questions.

Vocal/Rock Band/Guitar - Ruth LeMaynull

Thank you to all the singers that participated in Viva City this year. It is so amazing to see that many musicians in one place!  I hope you all enjoyed the performances.

The ALL Choirs concert will be held at Field School in the Gym.  Please note the change in place.  It will NOT BE AT WASHBURN.  We have a very fun Pops Concert planned for our end of the year concert.

Guitar and Rock Band will be presenting their own original compositions and cover songs on the 29th of May. Please come shake a leg and support our up and coming rock stars!

Remember Guitars can be rented over the summer for $15!

A sentimental moment for me.  This is my last newsletter and my last set of concerts at Field.  I want to thank you for the years of support!
Your well wishes as we headed out on choir tours, your presence for volunteering at numerous events, your hallway help for fun nights, your belief in my leadership and above all else the always present love for your children and the music they make.  It has been a pleasure through and through to serve your children.
Please help your child with the transition into his/her new music teacher.  It is a big job and the new teacher will be very thankful for your support.
I look forward to continuing my roll as a Field Parent and seeing you at various Field School events.  Peace to all, and again thank you for all the great times and memories. I am excited for a new challenge but it will be hard to say good-bye, so lets just say, "see ya' later".

Please know that I can be contacted via email at rlemay@mpls.k12.mn.us and my cell phone at 612-819-9144. Just for your information, my school voice mail is not the best method for a prompt reply.

Happy Spring!

7/8 Grade students will finish the year with the choice to work on advanced painting techniques or a digital portrait series. Some of our inspiration artists are Gordon Parks, Weegee, and Van Gogh.

5/6 Grade students are learning about graphic design and what makes a great logo. Students are creating their own logos based on the concepts of color theory, form, and emphasis.  We will finish the year with t-shirt design and printmaking.

Please visit our online art gallery at www.artsonia.com. 20% of purchases are returned to the art room for supplies.

Media/Technology - Sean Casey

During the month of May, students in Media/Technology classes will be returning to both the computer lab and to the topic of Advertising as they create an advertisement for a book of their choice from our library collection. This will be our final project for the school year, and will be a wonderful way to promote these books and encourage future students to read them at the start of the next school year!

Speaking of books and the end of the school year, the last day for students to check out books this year will be Friday, May 23. ALL books and other library materials need to be returned to the media center before the last day of school (Friday, June 6) in order for students to be able to celebrate the end of the school year and participate in their grade level's last-day-of-school activity. Don't miss out on this opportunity because of an overdue book!

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about any of the information shared in this month's newsletter, please feel free to contact me at the email address provided below.

Spanish/French - Char Swanson

Spanish students (7th/8th grades) will explore the world of "Food and Beverages." They will also learn about the proper eating etiquette in Spanish speaking countries, and apply all their knowledge in a culminating "interactive activity" during which they will act out a scenario in a Spanish restaurant or cafe, playing both customer and waiter roles. They will continue to read "Isabella's adventures," and become more and more familiarized with the vocabulary and grammatical structures inherent to this specific level of the language.

Spanish Foundations students (5th/6th grades) will apply their recent knowledge of "descriptive adjectives and like/dislike expressions" to descrbe their family and friends. The movie of the month is "Flushed away." Students will practice describing all the movie characters, using the vocabulary that they learned since last quarter.

All Spanish students are invited to attend a field trip to Pepito's restaurant, for a Mexican culinary experience followed by a movie. 5th/6th graders will go on Friday 5/23, and 7th/8th graders will go on Friday 5/30.

All French students will explore the different regions in France, and how people, food and geographical features vary from one region to another.
