Our final concert of the year is almost here. Thursday, May 23 at South High auditorium for all bands and strings grades 5-8. We will be honoring our 8th graders at this concert. The 5/6 grade portion of the concert begins at 6:30 pm. The 7/8 grade portion begins at 7:45 pm. I have invited the Hale 4th grade beginners to play with our Field beginners.

Students are to wear their concert black shirts and khaki pants. Strings meet in the orchestra room at 6:00 and bands to the band room at 6:15.

Concerts are very important and we spend many months working on the music! Often times, there is only 1 or 2 students playing on a part. Please make sure you child can be a part of the concerts! I really need an email or a note telling me if your child cannot be there and why. Thank you!

As mid quarter grades come out, some 5/6 grade students have low grades because they have not turned in their practice charts for March. They can still turn them in. This week the April chart is due. There is a practice chart form on the web page if needed.

It has been another awesome year with your children! Thanks for all your support!!

    Art - Del Bey

    Greetings,
Happy Spring!!? Students are nearing the end of a creative year. Our spotlight lessons are plaster art, 3D landscapes, and metal tooling.

Students are choosing to create a plaster cast of their arm or a mask that reflects an alter ego and personal side. 3D landscapes and metal tooling are popular lesson choices. Students are using a variety of materials to translate the landscape around us or using tools to draw family crest or animal designs on metal.

We will begin our wearable art unit in May. Students will explore different types of fabric and different techniques for applying designs. Students have the option to bring a blank t-shirt to design. The t-shirt should be 100% cotton and light colored, donations are welcome.

Please visit our online art gallery at www.artsonia. com to see our latest work. 20% of purchases are returned to the art room for supplies.

    Art Heals!

    GRADES 5 AND 6

You will be receiving a phone call from Field Community School this week informing you that mid-quarter progress grades have been posted for all of your student's classes, including Media/Technology. Please visit the Parent Portal to see your student's grade as of the first half of the 4th Quarter.

In the second half of the 4th Quarter, students in Grades 5 and 6 will once again be putting their 21st century skills into practice by continuing to search for, select, and read award-winning children's and young adult books, and by continuing to touch type using the Typing Web Typing Tutor.

The specific children's and young adult book awards that students will be learning about in the month of May are the Michael L. Printz Award, the Schneider Family Book Award, and the Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal.

    Physical Education - Marni Heck

    * Parents, have you noticed your child's improved posture? They are making efforts in sitting up straight. Research indicate upright posture contributes to once happiness and overall health.
    * Table Tennis was exciting. I saw huge improvements with serves, topspin and underpin shots.
    * The final Physical Fitness Tests will begin May 7th. The kids received their scores in January. I look forward to seeing their progress.
    * This newsletter will be the last for this school year. Thank you for your support in your child's education
. * In the summer, I encourage kids to participate in running events, bike, swim and much more. Please remind them to perform basic exercises such as curlups, planks, spiders, pushups and lunge jumps. Stretching should be a priority each day.
    * Be safe!

    Spanish/French - Char Swanson

    Bonjour! Hola!
Spring is finally here...(let's hope!), and summer is patiently waiting....
French students are saying goodbye to "School life/Materials/Colors," and getting ready to embark on a new learning experience: "How to describe people and things." They will apply all past knowledge of vocabulary and structural concepts to this new learning target (colors, agreement of nouns and adjectives). They will engage in various activities in which they will enjoy describing themselves and their peers, favorite celebrities or family members, etc...

Spanish students will finalize their "main project" of this quarter: "Mi Familia" This project will reflect the last 5 learning targets that were recently presented (numbers, dates, family members, descriptive adjectives and likes). Students will demonstrate their written and oral proficiency by completing the written part of this project, and being able to "deliver" the content of their project in the target language.
