Volunteer Descriptions

Thank you for your interest in Volunteering at Field!!  Please use the Volunteer Descriptions to help you decide where your best fit is at Field.

Study Buddy Tutor Reading:  Volunteering in a Language Arts classroom, helping students keep up with their classmates academically.  The Reading Study Buddy Tutors should have a strong desire to help students excel in reading and also have an understanding of and familiarity with students who are not performing at the level of their peers in Language Arts.  The strongest area of need is in the BEST (Basic Enrichment Skills Time) classrooms.

Study Buddy Tutor Math: Volunteering in a Math classroom, helping students keep up with their classmates academically.  The Math Study Buddy Tutor should have a strong desire to help students excel in Math and also have an understanding and familiarity with students who are not performing at the level of their peers in Math.  If you have a particular area of Math interest, the 5th grade focuses on Elementary Mathematics, the 6th grade focuses on Geometry, the 7th Grade focuses on Algebra, and the 8th Grade focuses on Calculus.  The strongest area of need is in the 7th Grade Math class as well as the BEST (Basic Enrichment Skills Time) classrooms.

Study Buddy Science: Volunteering in a Science classroom, helping students keep up with their classmates academically.  The Science Study Buddy Tutors should have a strong desire to help students excel in Science and also have an understanding and familiarity with students who are not performing at the level of their peers in Science.  If your interest is GISE or GEMS, you will be volunteering after school on Tuesdays or Thursdays.  If you have a particular area of Science interest, the 5th grade focuses on Natural Science, the 6th grade focuses on Geoology, the 7th Grade focuses on Simple Machines, and the 8th Grade focuses on Chemistry.  The strongest need is in the 7th Grade Science class as well as the BEST (Basic Enrichment Skills Time) classrooms.

Study Buddy Tutor Music: These volunteers will be working with the Choral or Band classes, providing accompaniment, individual student help, or wherever needed.  The Music Study Buddy Tutor should have a background in music and should have a strong desire to help students excel in music, while also having an understanding and familiarity with students who are not performing at the level of their peers in Music.  The strongest area of need is currently guitar tutors.

AVID Volunteer: Volunteering in the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) classroom, working with students who are typically underrepresented at the College Level, focusing on organizational and study skills.  Volunteers would help with binder checks, note taking skills, and classroom support.  The strongest need is for volunteers helping with binder checks on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Main Office Help:  Volunteering with Vicki Berg, the school secretary, helping write late passes for students, answering telephones, and assistance as necessary.  The Main Office volunteers should have a lot of patience and be able providing assistance to a large volume of students in a small amount of time. 

Media Center: Volunteering in the Media Centers on Fridays, assisting Terry Mazig on checking out books, assisting students, and helping wherever needed.

Music Helper Band or Choir:

Testing Monitor: These are occasional volunteer positions, needed primarily for the MCA and MAP testing.  They will be hall monitors, classroom monitors, or test proctors.
