Field PTA Board

Greetings, Field families! Hope the school year is off to a good start at your house.

My name is Leah Kondes, and I am the mother of a 6th grader, Phoebe, and two Field alums. This is my first year as PTA co-chair, so please bear with me as I learn the ropes! In the past, I have enjoyed volunteering with Art Adventure and as a field trip chaperone among other things. If I have not met you yet, I look forward to doing so at various PTA and school events throughout the year ahead. My Field mouse is in Madrigals and band, so I will be at those concerts for sure!

Speaking of PTA events, I hope to see you at Washburn Tuesday night at 7 p.m. to watch the documentary Screeenagers together. Screenagers is a personal look at how families are coping with kids and screen time and how being connected to devices is effecting relationships and even child development. The film was directed by Delaney Ruston, a Seattle filmmaker and physician. You can see the trailer for the movie here. Your Field student will see this documentary during the school day on September 14. Come get a sneak preview so you can discuss it with your child after they view it.

We have a couple other events coming up this month, so please mark your calendars:

This Saturday 9/17, we will have our Welcome Back to School Skating Party, and the best part is this: parents do not have to stay! (In fact, your kids would probably prefer that you didn't.) The party goes from 4:30-6 p.m. and will be held at the Roller Garden in St. Louis Park 5622 W Lake St 55416.

Picture day is on Monday 9/19. That means you have all weekend to help your children figure out what they are wearing and practice their smiles. Don't forget a bath or shower Sunday night along with an early bedtime! Order forms should be coming home this week, so be on the lookout for those.

If you have any comments, questions or issues that Jen, my co chair, and I can address during the school year, please let us know.

Screenagers Showing Tomorrow September 13 at 7:00
The Field PTA, Washburn High School and Washburn Foundation invite you to the showing of "Screenagers" at the Washburn Auditorium.
Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, Screenagers reveals how tech time impacts kids' development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.

Spirit Wear
The spirit wear final details are being worked out and we will have a link for you to shop with as soon as we can. We thank you for your patience!

Rollerskating Night Saturday September 17
Join other Field kids for rollerskating from 4:30pm - 6:00pm at the Roller Garden, 5622 W Lake St, St Louis Park, MN 55416.
Parents can drop off or stay. The cost to get in is $7 if you are skating or not.

Picture Day Monday September 19
Envelopes for picture day will be handed out to students this week. Pictures will be taken at Field on September 19.

Referendum Information
MPS would like families to be aware of an upcoming referendum.
On Nov. 8, Minneapolis voters will be asked to renew the school district's current operating referendum authorization, which expires after the 2016-17 school year. If passed, funding would help Minneapolis Public Schools manage class sizes and provide supportive services and activities for students. The request would authorize the referendum for nine years and be annually adjusted for inflation. Property taxes are not projected to increase if the referendum renewal passes.

Please check out this link to make sure you know the facts prior to voting.
